Job Title: Senior Support Worker

Location: Birmingham, B31

Salary: £12.00-12.20

If you are interested in our senior support worker in Birmingham role, you will provide person-centred support to people with learning disabilities living in their own homes, helping enable them to enjoy a fulfilling and valued life, to participate in the community and to develop their abilities to the fullest. You will support staff and devise rotas that meet the needs of the service. You will also collaborate with service users, families, carers, and involved professionals to provide a coordinated and consistent service that maximises outcomes for service users. To assist the line manager with ensuring that the service meets all the requirements and standards set by the service specification, the Commissioners, the CQC, Creative Support, and other stakeholders.

Senior Support Worker In Birmingham

  • Develop and sustain warm and trusting relationships with service users.
  • Promote self-esteem, happiness and emotional health of service users.
  • Respect the person’s right to privacy and ensure that their dignity is maintained at all times.
  • Encourage and support service users in expressing needs, views and concerns. Enable service users to make choices and decisions and to participate to the fullest in planning and decision-making processes.
  • Respect and promote the rights and entitlements of people with learning disabilities, and enable them to participate to the fullest in their communities.
  • Be responsive to the needs of service users in line with Personal Support Plans and respond flexibly to changing needs.
  • Enable service users to gain independence, confidence and competence in following areas:
  • Social skills/relationships
  • Personal care and hygiene
  • Daily living skills
  • Using community resources and facilities
  • Social, leisure and work activities
  • Self-organisation and coping abilities
  • Personal safety

Essential Experience

  • At least two years’ experience in supporting people with learning disabilities
  • Experience of supervising a staff team and devising duty rotas Application Desirable
  • Possession of NVQ or other relevant social care qualification or working towards this.
  • Degree level qualification Desirable
  • A warm, person centred and affirmative approach to people with learning disabilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to listen sensitively to others
  • Ability to engage with service users, to develop and sustain warm and trusting relationships
  • Ability to liaise in a professional manner with other agencies and to work positively with the families and friends of service users
  • Co-ordinate and supervise staff and being a role model to staff
  • Demonstrate initiative, self-motivation and resourcefulness
  • Knowledge of helpful approaches, strategies and interventions in working with people with learning disabilities
  • Knowledge of communication techniques (e.g. Makaton, PECS, TEACCH System)
  • Support people with physical health need. This may include pushing wheelchairs and using hoists for which a degree of physical fitness will be required
  • Willingness to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service

Hours of Work: Full-time (37.5hrs per week), to be worked flexibly on a rota; including evenings, weekends, sleepins, and public holidays according to the needs of the service.
